BRAZIL BEACHES Angra dos Reis, Rio: Lopes Mendes beach Voted one of the top '10 Most Beautiful Beaches in the World' by Vogue magazine, Lopes Mendes is a remote, hidden beach that's not easy to get to, but if you’re looking for seclusion and spectacular beauty, you won't mind the steep and muddy 20-minute trek from the village of Palmas on Ilha Grande. Your reward will be a two-mile, crescent beach with some of the whitest, finest sand stretching out to waters that are a striking iridescent blue. There are no facilities of any kind in sight or trees for shade, so bring plenty of sunscreen along with food and drink. CURAÇAO CARIBBEAN Curaçao: Hotel Resort Kurá Hulanda Curaçao, off the coast of Venezuela, was a major Caribbean port for the slave trade some 200 years ago. One of the chief slave markets was in Willemstad's Otrobanda district, a neighborhood of twisting alleys and distinctive façades that languished after the trade came to an end. Intrigued by the architecture and history, the dutch entrepreneur Jacob Dekker purchased a crumbling 19th-century mansion built by a wealthy Dutch family. He then acquired and restored several dozen derelict buildings; on vacant lots in the surrounding blocks, Dekker added 35 new structures reflecting the aesthetic of the Otrobanda. They are the heart of Project Kurá Hulanda, comprising a museum of African art, a research institute that focuses on the African diaspora, and a Dutch Colonial-style resort with 67 guest rooms, two pools, five restaurants, and stately courtyards throughout -Kurá Hulanda is island dialect for "Dutch courtyard." The cobblestones and freshly plastered walls, in fact, may seem a little too perfect, but with them Dekker has created an enduring testament to the power of regeneration. GREECE BEACHES Relaxing beaches in Greece Paleohóri, Mílos Triple strand with a naturist zone, steam vents and rock overhangs for shade. Falásarna, Crete Close to a tropical fantasy: successive crescents of fine yellow sand, gently shelving turquoise water, and an ancient city to explore. Livádhi Yeranoú, Pátmos Swim out to Áyios Yeóryios islet, then lounge under the line of tamarisks or head for the excellent taverna. Megálo Seïtáni, Sámos You have to walk or water-taxi to this huge, sandy beach in a nature reserve; monk seals are occasionally seen nearby. Yialós, Lefkádha A stunning, deserted coarse-sand beach on the island's west coast. CRETE BEACHES Haniá beaches, Crete Haniá's beaches all lie to the west of the city. For the crowded but clean city beach this means no more than a ten-minute walk, following the shoreline from the Naval Museum, but for more extensive spaces you're better off taking the local bus (#21) out along the coast road. This leaves from the east side of Platía 1866 and runs along the coast as far as Kalamáki beach. Kalamáki and the previous stop, Oásis beach, are again pretty crowded but they're a considerable improvement over the beach in Haniá itself. In between, you'll find plenty of alternatives, though some of these are quite a walk from the bus stop. Further afield there are even finer beaches at Ayía Marína to the west, or Kalathás and Stavrós out on the Akrotíri peninsula, all of which can be reached by KTEL buses from the main station. IBIZA, SPAIN
Ibiza, which together with Formentera forms the small Pitiusas archipelago, is the Balearic Isle lying closest to the Spanish mainland.
The city of Ibiza, the capital, is also popularly known by the name, Vila.
It is perched atop a promontory that dominates the entire port. Rising above the Upper Town are the twin outlines of the Cathedral and Castle.
Down below in the Lower Town are the sa Penya and sa Marina Quarters, bustling with the boutiques, restaurants and shops of all kinds that have made this the city’s nerve centre. Towards the end of the sixties, Ibiza became famous thanks to the hippie movement, which endowed it with the status of a counterculture paradise.

SARDINIA
Despite its celebrity as a holiday destination, Sardinia remains remarkably enigmatic.
Hidden behind the golden facade of swanky coastal resorts and spectacular beaches is an altogether different Sardinia, an island of untamed nature and proud tradition, of dark granite peaks, dizzying valleys and endless forests, all shrouded in an eerie coat of silence. Almost 7000 nuraghi (stone towers) lie strewn about the countryside, a reminder of prehistoric life on the island.
This beautiful Celtic landscape has fostered an isolated lifestyle still evident today. Although access is now assured by modern roads, for centuries many inland communities were cut off from the outside world by Sardinia's mountainous terrain. As a result inlanders, though unfail- ingly polite and helpful, can be diffident towards outsiders, and many towns bear the hallmarks of a difficult existence.
The Sardinian coast, however, continues to attract most of the at- tention and most of the visitors. Port Said (Bur Sa ' id) is located on the mouth of the Suez Canal and stretches for nearly 30 kilometers between its left bank and the Mediterranean Sea coast as a sentinel guarding the gate between the African continent and the Middle East. The city counts a population of more than 600,000 inhabitants and is considered one of the most advanced and cosmopolitan of all Egypt because of its special administrative status of Porto Franco.
Today Port Said is a popular destination for visitors from all over the world and, although it does not have the great archaeological wonders of other Egyptian realities, its cosmopolitan atmosphere, the elegant old Town and the beautiful area Nature of Lake-Zala gives tourists a pleasant holiday. The historic center of Port Said develops between the Suez Canal, the Mediterranean coast and the canal that leads to Lake Zala, embracing the newly built residential areas. The most striking and worth visiting attraction as soon as you arrive in the centre is the boulevard that runs alongside the Suez Canal, with its continuous traffic of large boats, from the lighthouse of the port to the imposing base of the monument to Ferdinand de Lesseps, the consul And French architect who designed the channel.
ARUBA, CARIBBEAN
Miles of white sugary sand and turquoise seas
Palm Beach, home of Aruba's glamorous high-rise hotels, is the best spot for people-watching. This stretch of sea and white sand is also great for swimming, sunbathing, sailing, fishing, and snorkeling. It can get crowded, and with two piers and numerous watersports operators, it’s also busier and noisier than Aruba's other beaches.
Separated from Palm Beach by a limestone outcrop, Eagle Beach stretches as far as the eye can see. The sugar-white sand and gentle surf are ideal for swimming, and although the nearby hotels offer watersports and beach activities, the atmosphere on the beach is relaxed and quiet. A couple of bars punctuate the expansive strand, and shaded picnic areas are provided for the public.
Baby Beach, at Aruba's easternmost tip, is a prime destination for families with young children. The protection of rock breakwaters makes this shallow bowl of warm turquoise water perfect for inexperienced swimmers. Giant sea-grape bushes offer shade from the sun. The beach has a refreshment stand and washrooms, but no other facilities.
Also worth seeking out is Hadikurari (Fisherman's Huts), where swimming conditions, in very shallow water, are excellent. The only drawback to this white-powder-sand beach is some pebbles and stones at the water’s edge. This beach is known for some of the finest windsurfing on island.
