If you want to see another facet of Brazil, a Brazil you probably didn't think existed, come to this city. The first thing that struck us about this city is the big difference with the other two Brazilian cities we saw. The general appearance is more that of a North American city than a Brazilian one, even the people who live there have typically European rather than South American features. In this city we did not see the so-called "favelas" as we saw in Rio and to a lesser extent in Recife. In fact, Florianopolis is probably the richest and best-kept city in Brazil; the quality of life in the entire state of Santa Catarina is comparable to that of Italy and even the way of life in many cases is very similar. is very similar. On the island of Santa Catarina you can move freely in complete safety, without fear of running into "inconveniences". The vegetation on the island of Santa Catarina is very green and lush, thanks to the fact that it rains almost every day in the evening. In the island of Santa Catarina, despite its small size, you can see many varieties of landscapes: cliffs, sand dunes, long sandy beaches, coves, lagoons and an area, in the center, with relief (max. 200 m above sea level). In the months of December, January and February there is a considerable influx of tourists, especially Argentines. This unfortunately leads to an intense car traffic on the whole island, which causes the consequent worsening of air quality particularly in the area of the city. Unfortunately, we have observed that the road policy of the area is based on private transport and new roads are being built which, in our opinion, in many places do not fit in with the surrounding environment. Undoubtedly, it would have been better to offer tourists public transportation such as buses or to build a light rail system that would connect the most frequented points of the island.
